Had no idea!
Ive been in town working on a movie and was totally bummed by the scene. A friend of mine from NY invited me to a party at a place called the Soch, I had never heard of the place, was reluctant to go. I had a great time, the music was good (finally!) - I never want to hear another Mariah Gay Cliche Carey remix again - seriously! Thank goodness for the social club!
These bars are listed to be open until 2am Mon- fri. It was 12am when I got there and it was CLOSED!!! ??????
'Un" social club
If you go, take a friend with you, that way you will have someone to talk to. I've gone there three time now. The first time was with friends, and we had a great time. The last two time I went by myself. Not too much fun. No one would talk to me. The staff is very friendly and easy on the eyes. The local ABQ'ns are not that friendly as in "Social" No too sure if I want to go back, but not to be narrow minded, I'll give it one more try, and hope for the best.

so much fun
Went in for Thursday night it was karaoke I had so much fun I even sang, sober no less. Great little dive bar mixed crowd in ages, styles, gender etc, but everyone got along and had so much fun encouraging the singers. Best place to cut loose in New Mexico
Nice, My Favorite Here
This is a cozier club than Effex or Sidewinders. Drink pours are the best. However you must be a member to come in AND you need to buy tickets for drag shows on the busy nights IN ADVANCE or you will be stuck in the less fun and full back section.
1975! A total throwback!
This place is like a journey in a time machine back to stonewall days. It's a drag bar but the drag queens aren't like the fun ones of the modern age..these are huge hideous whales that don't do comedy at all...they try to preform...it's totally self indulgent..no one is interested except themselves...and the men at this bar are right out of 1972..smokers..all out of shape...not attractive at all...it's like you're at the "misfit" bar in some border town. The kicker? They're kinda bitchy here...the staff isn't friendly...and the drag shows DOMINATE the evening...loud, no humor (they're REAL women preforming don'tyaknow) If you like retro dive bar..this is your place!
Fun Place
This is a great place to meet people and come for happy hour.
Cuz, 'Girls just wanta have fun'
Only been there twice as of this writing, and only because I don't live in Abq. However, if I did.... this would be my place. I find It welcoming and comfy for all ages and all genders. I find it accepting and attractive, the hotties too. It's good to know that a stranger can walk in and be treated with such hospitality by the staff as well as the members.
Little to offer besides smoking
If this private club lost its smoking permit the bar stools would be empty overnight. The bartenders are competent and friendly and remember guests and their drink preferences, and that's good. But the hospitality ends there. Because of the bizarre business model (they're classified as "lodging" through some strange twist of logic at City Hall) it's never clear who the managers are or who's responsible for the lack-luster offerings. The interior resembles a VFW hall right down to the folding tables. There's someone who knows how to double-click an MP3 file masquerading as a DJ, the music selection is complaint driven. A middle-aged lesbian will go will go to the booth and complain "Why haven't you played this song yet?" and it gets played. Then another middle-aged lesbian will go to the booth and complain "Why haven't you played THIS song yet?" and so it goes all night long. Too many patrons come from Santa Fe and make it clear they're fabulous because they come from a small town overrun by Californians with no gay bars of its own. Groucho Marx once said "I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member" and ASC's patrons should have taken the hint.
Joke
Rude bartender, dead horse bar, why a membership to nothing. what are the benefits to this crap. We went for a drink, not to give out our life story to some putz kid behind the bar. Don't bother. Go to Sidewinders.
if only if only 18and over
I'm sure this place is great as iv seen lots of reviews about this, i pass by all the time and wondered, but as i am 19 i cannot. two more years and then i can join this gay community that flourishes yet nothing but bars bars and more bars, no simple hang outs or real social clubs, just 21 and over bars, it seems theres no place to hang out and make friends with people like yourself unless you want to get drunk aswell. Idk if you can have 18yo+ thursdays or some shit but it would really be nice to find gay people to hang out with other than resorting to Facebook or craigslist where everyone there just wants a hand job and to leave... looking to not be friendless these next two years as my supposed friends abandoned me after finding out I'm queer, peace and love...
questions
sorry new to this cyber stuff.
how old do you have to be to get into the club?
how much is the fee?
and are people here nice?
Cocktail Hour
Drinks here are the lowest priced in the city of albuquerque, with some of the best bartenders around, bartenders have been a part of the gay community for over 15 years, providing the best drinks, the atmosphere is very laid back and low key, if you had a long day at the office of want to sit back and have a drink with friends the Social Club is the place to be. hope to see you around.
