Open Safe Zone

Join the UNM LGBTQ Resource Center for the second Open Safe Zone Training of the spring semester! The training will be held on Wednesday, March 25th, from 10-2pm in Room 117 of Mitchell Hall. Pizza will be provided as lunch for all participants. The primary goal of the Safe Zone program is to educate others on how to work with the LGBTQ Community, build awareness, provide safety and advocacy for the LGBTQ community, and equip allies with a toolkit for supporting LGBTQ youth. Safe Zone trainings are designed to provide or increase cultural competency as it relates to the LGBTQ community. Trainings delve into the history and meaning of many terms used in the LGBTQ community, various spectrums of sex, gender, and identity, intersections of the many identities that we all possess, phobias, allyship, transgender health disparities, and much more.
