What we say
Albuquerque's entertainment complex
The Ranch is like a mall, if the entire mall was gay and every other store was a bar. With stores catering to the leather crowd, a country western theme, drag queen bingo nights, karoake and retro dance nights, there is something here for almost everyone.

Since we travel so much, we have learned not to expect much in some States. If your new in town, and friendly! and start talking to people, then people will talk to you. Not that many bars in this big city so you HAVE to start conversations.
Bartenders are not that friendly unless you make the first step and talk to them first.

This place is O.K., the crowd can be sketchy. Lots of people on the weekends. Don't know if I would make this the first stop on my night out.

Sidewinders falls into the sad category of "Well, there are only 3 gay bars in town, so it'll have to do". Only one of the bartenders ever remembers the night's theme or discounts. The owner/manager is immune to suggestions, he'll cut you off mid-sentence to ask if you've seen his online sex profile. You can meet fun people and make new friends at Sidewinders, but it's only because the patrons make an effort. The owner certainly doesn't.

Sidewinders Ranch has been producing a wonderful eclectic atmosphere for Albuquerque GLBT community since it arrived in 2004. It has a second "sports lounge" type bar in the back for more intimate, chatting encounters. It is very safe to say that *anyone* may find some fun to be had at Sidewinders. :-)
